Your role: You will drive commercial activities for the company’s cell and therapy businesses by advancing our market presence in the Asia Pacific region (excluding China). Focus on Japan, but also South Korea and Singapore. You will be responsible for assessing the market landscape, target customers seeking to streamline their therapeutic programs, and drive complex product and service contracting activities throughout the adaption lifecycle of the therapeutic program.

As a successful candidate, you will be responsible for the company’s continued market entry for our growing product and service business, building territory plans, identifying target customers in line with the business goals, ensuring applicability of marketing tactics for the territory. You will consistently apply a working knowledge of Professional, Consultative and Strategic Selling skills to primarily develop relationships with new customers, but also maintain existing business, and develop incremental business in existing accounts.

This role requires a comprehensive understanding of the market space, manufacturing technology and the drug development regulatory environment, as well as the ability to make strategic decisions and articulate this future vision to both internal and external audiences at all levels of the organization.

The new team member will work alongside the wider Commercial Team to define and prioritize new opportunities as well as collaborating with Territory Sales Managers across the APAC region, by

  • playing a lead role in building out the customer pipeline through proactive customer engagement, attendance of and technical customer discussions at conferences (lead generation)
  • understanding the individual customer’s needs around their manufacturing process, identifying add-on opportunities for the broader product and service portfolio as a key responsibility.
  • representing the manufacturing business to customers, incl. but not limited to manufacturing options, viral vector producer lines and manufacturing templates, testing services etc.
  • seeding cell therapy manufacturing platform to prepare for APAC market entry and enable technology evaluations working by with the Head of Field Applications, as well as local Sales partners
  • driving to close contract negotiations for related products, viral vector manufacturing services, and related licenses throughout the technical sales cycle
  • ensuring technical feedback cycle with the product and applications teams is maintained for continued product development
  • keeping up to date with industry developments, and feed back to the wider commercial team about customers’ applications and product needs in recurring team meetings
  • supporting the wider commercial team on sales and cross-sales activities including being the main point of contact for all Cell and Gene Therapy inquiries in the APAC region, training of local sales teams, and supporting technical and commercial negotiations
  • This is a role with up to 50% travel. The candidate is expected to be self-motivated, driven, and comfortable operating in a remote matrix setup.

 

Who You Are:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Biology (Cell, Molecular, Virology, Immunology) or Engineering or related disciplines
  • 5+ years of sales / technical sales experience or client relationship experience, ideally balanced in a bio-manufacturing environment, capital equipment or contract testing service environment.
  • Proven track records in negotiating long term/large scale contracts in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology environment and experience within a regulated environment and ability to interact effectively with process development and quality assurance / quality control professionals.
  • Ability to act as “voice of the expert”, provide effective communication to achieve solid working relationships with customers
  • Demonstrated experience in identifying new cell and gene therapy targets and opportunities and acting to establish contacts within these
  • Experience in explaining technical equipment capabilities, and performing technical demonstrations Strong influencing skills with the ability to manage projects across functions
  • Strong negotiating skills.
  • Native level in Japanese and fluent in English

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PhD in Biology (Cell, Molecular, Virology, Immunology) or Engineering or related disciplines
  • 5+ years of sales / technical sales experience or client relationship experience, ideally balanced in a bio-manufacturing environment, capital equipment or contract testing service environment.
  • Knowledge of VGT/CGT Commercial approvals, process development, bioreactor technology, downstream processing and biological safety testing preferred.
  • The expectation is that the candidate would spend up to 50% of their time traveling, in meetings at client sites or at industry events. (Mainly within the US, but also South Korea and Singapore on an as-need basis. Once or twice a year travel to the US for team meetings once post-Covid travel resumes.)
